Travel on a Curated Self-Drive Trails In Karnataka

A self-drive holiday is all about embracing the road and heading out to explore new destinations with a completely new perspective. The self-drive trails are designed, packaged and promoted in a format which appeals to people wanting to explore the destination at their own speed. 

The Jungle Lodges and Resorts Limited (JLR), a public sector under the Karnataka government in association with Skyway International Travels, Bangalore, a leading tour company specialised in inbound tourism has started self-drive trails in Karnataka where travellers can drive their own vehicles or hire cars to go on curated tours on select routes. Before you wonder about the other aspects, JLR will take care of everything including accommodation, food and even a guide to lead you!

Each trip will be limited to 15 cars (30 persons) only and shall be provided on first-come first-served basis. The packages are available from Feb 2021 to May 2021 (one trip per month). The package cost is about Rs 20,000/- per person, inclusive of all costs, except the cost of hiring the vehicle.

There are four packages which have been announced, which are 4-5 days self-drive trails to various beach and heritage destinations like BR hills, Bheemeshwari, Bandipur, Bhadra, Dandeli, Dubare, Jog, Hampi, Madikeri, Gokarna and Karwar.

Commenting on the tie up, S Mahalingiah, Founder of Skyway International has said that the purpose is to bring together travellers who want to explore the destinations themselves on a self-drive trail, but requires support and guidance in place of finding places, routes, good sanitised place to stay, sightseeing support. He said that more itineraries will be designed and more tours will be conducted after analysing the response from the market. “The idea is to popularise lesser known destinations of the state,” he added.
